Comparison of Visualisation Methods
To compare the "old" industry guidance with the newer methods, you can download and print the images below. Note that these images refer to the pre-Feb 2014 wind farm boundary change and should be used only as a comparison of the various methods.
Image 1 follows the old Scottish Natural Heritage 2006 guidance.
Image 2 follows the Highland Council 2013 standard for 75mm focal length images, and the SNH 2014 guidance. The Highland Council has been requiring images like this since at least 2010.
Image 3 is an example of the new medium-width panoramas from SNH 2014 using the same image data as image 1.

All images are from the same viewpoint in Durlston Country Park. They are set for 250dpi printing on A3 or 16"x12" paper, or 34"x12" for image 3. The printed width of the image area in Image 1 should turn out to be 393mm, 390mm in Image 2, and 820mm in image 3.
To understand the differences properly, you should follow the viewing instructions on each image carefully (and see the viewing method for Images 2 & 3). They cannot be compared on a computer screen. As always, images are best compared at the viewpoint. These images, which still do not show blade movement, can also be compared with the video below which shows exactly the same scene, but dynamically.

This video shows the same view from Durlston of a 7MW turbine array with Anvil Point lighthouse in the foreground.
