Who is Eneco?
Eneco was the initial company that won the bid to develop the "West of Isle of Wight" zone selected by the Crown Estate. This is a Dutch company owned by 61 municipalities in the Netherlands, the largest of which are Rotterdam, The Hague and Dordrecht. Eneco Wind UK Ltd. is ultimately owned by Eneco Holdings N.V. Eneco has previously built a wind farm near the Dutch coast, called the "Prinses Amalia" farm. But it is nearly twice the distance from the shore, with turbines that are only 60% of the height proposed for Navitus Bay.
Who is EDF?
EDF Energy plc is a UK subsidiary of Electricite de France, one of the world's biggest electricity generators. EDF is majority owned by the French government (about 80%) with subsidiaries in many countries. EDF's capacity is primarily nuclear, so it qualifies as a "low-carbon" generator, but it has interests in other generating methods including fossil fuels and renewables.
Navitus Bay Development Ltd.
The development rights to the Navitus Bay wind farm are now held by a 50:50 joint venture between Eneco WInd UK Ltd. and EDF Energy plc. The joint venture is known as Navitus Bay Development Ltd.
